ABOUT
YOGA SUKHAVATI: ENERGY, ART, LIGHT
Sukhavati is a sanskrit word that means "endowed of bliss", referring to Amitabha Buddha's pure realm. Yoga means to join. Yoga Sukhavati is joining the blissful realm. Through yoga teacher training programs, workshops and retreats, we offer you the opportunity to be the bliss and share the bliss.
Yoga Sukhavati is energy. The energy of honoring ancient wisdom practices with our modern lives. The energy of living a blissful life and sharing it with others.
Yoga Sukhavati is art. Learn to listen to your own unique calling and create experience for others through that expression.
THE ART OF:
- Balance
- Clarity
- Compassion
- Sound
- Sequencing
- Anatomy
- Ayurveda
- Renewal
- Bliss
- Asana
- Breath
- Touch
Yoga Sukhavati is light. Aspire to the highest goal of being the light. Through the practice of asana, pranayama, meditation and self- care, we purify the body and mind to move towards a more sattvic state of light and awareness.
Yoga Sukhavati is a spiritually aligned hatha vinyasa practice, infused with Ayurveda, Tibetan Buddhism and anatomical precision that specializes in practices to nourish the stages of a woman's life.
YOGASANAin the Sukhavati method is practiced with clear anatomical instruction to generate mindfulness and an experience beyond the physical. The poses are special entities, forms of sacred geometry, when performed at the most beneficial time of day, month, year or cycle of an individual's life, create an inner harmony with the cosmos.
The essence of TibetanBuddhism is compassion for all living beings, co-mingled with the direct realization of the ultimate nature of reality. Through the study of these two methods, compassion and wisdom, learning mantra, prayers, visualization and meditation practices from the Palyul tradition, the wish for freedom is nurtured.
With the study ofAyurveda, Indias healing practice, we are embracing an ancient and holistic approach to health and folding it into our modern lives. Ayurvedatreats the whole self and practices are done daily. What has been weakened in the body becomes strengthened to allow the systems to naturally achieve health. When we are able to look at our own body-mind as an organism with its own unique formula for balance, then we can support others to find their own balance. Knowledge of the basic Ayurvedic principles and understanding one's own dosha (body type) are taught in the 200 hr training. Diet, pranayama, lifestyle attunement, bodily cleanses and herbs are taught in the 300 hr training.
Yoga Sukhavati was created by two ardent ladies in Brooklyn. We are up for passing on the energy, art and light.

Anjula Prasad
I am Anjula Saraswati Prasad. That has come to mean many things in this lifetime, so many illusory things. Most important about my kirtan is what I have come to not be.
I know there is no higher Guru than the Guru within.
In kirtan, I am committed to holding that space for you, that space where you may safely experience the deepest crevices of your existence, that place where you may be without your ideas of you, without your ideas of me.
In kirtan, I am committed to that space between the sounds we create, that place where I am you and you are me, to raising the vibrations so high that we hear those sounds they say are inaudible to the human ear.
In kirtan, I am committed to helping you find your highest voice, the voice of your Guru within . . . and spreading as much love as possible along the way.

Sanskrit & Sutras
with Jo Brill
May 8, 2012
Times: Tues. 6–9pm
Brill is returning to take our Sanskrit Studies to the next level by applying them to the Yoga Sutras.
We are very excited to have her back!
"Repetition without anxiety is the key. You may find it comforting - as Jo does - to realize that it's impossible to "finish" learning Sanskrit. We're learning to float in the ocean, not trying to drink it! The beauty of the language unfolds gradually as we come back to it again and again. And there are wonderful rewards even at the beginning of the journey."
Join us for this workshop focusing on Sanskrit through in Patanjali's classic work, the Yoga Sutras. Discuss the activities of the mind, the price of letting the mind run rampant, the ways in which we can get better at controlling our minds, and the gifts of such discipline. Chant select sutras and beloved chants in the beautiful language of yoga, hone your ability to read the Devanagari script, and connect directly to meaning with a practical application of Sanskrit grammar.

BHAGAVAD GITA
with Edwin Bryant
SEPTEMBER 14–16, 2012
Times: Sat. 9–12 and2–6pm, Sun. 9–12 and 2–6pm
The Bhagavad Gita is perhaps the most representative and certainly the most influential and popular text from the numerous and varied spiritual traditions of Hindu India. Spoken by Lord Krishna to Arjuna who is undergoing a moment of crisis, the text deals with the nature of the self, the world, ultimate reality, the purpose of human existence, and the spiritual paths that can be undertaken to accomplish this purpose. There are primarily four such paths, or yoga systems, featured in the text through which one can unite with the Divine: the path of self-knowledge, jnana yoga; the path of action in the world, karma yoga; the path of meditation, raja yoga; and the path of theistic devotion, bhakti yoga. This workshop will undertake a detailed discussion of these four yoga systems, with contextual references to the background of the text and to some of the major streams of Hindu thought in general. No prior knowledge of Hinduism is necessary for this seminar; the only requirement is to bring an open mind and sincere heart. Students are encouraged to procure any edition of the text, particularly versions that have the Sanskrit text in Roman script, since we will chant some of the Sanskrit verses together.
